Yet there was beauty too, which also rang true, since so much of the story takes place in and around the glory of Notre Dame cathedral. There was something muddy, something almost bloody about the art which seemed appropriate to that harsh, sometimes brutal time. I found the palette and style viscerally evocative of fifteenth-century France, although why, I'm not sure I can quantify. How apt, then, to have the opportunity to read the classic in this format, which of course emphasizes the visual, from the wild, beautiful Esmeralda to the grossly deformed Hunchback. It was while reading Tim Conrad's graphic novel retelling of Victor Hugo's THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME that I realized how very visual the story is, how the story hinges on appearance, and how that can disguise what lies beneath. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Zukav discusses the essence of physics with the sense of fascination and inspiration we all feel when we look at the vastness of our universe. ![]() With the skill of a Zen master - who, rather than tell us about a subject leads us to understand the experience of it - Mr. In beautifully clear, often poetic language, with no mathematical equations, Gary Zukav presents this carefully abridged edition of his bestseller to open our minds to ideas that embrace the nature of the universe, and to help us gain intellectual and spiritual access to this often-baffling world. Still, she’s drawn into a number of extramarital affairs that skirt the line between passion and passivity. She starts a course of Jungian analysis with the inimitable Doktor Messerli and finally enrolls in language classes. Essbaum’s story opens as Anna attempts to break through her ennui and engage with the world. In her nine years of living in a tidy suburb of Zurich, Anna (whose name is a Tolstoy nod) has never gotten a driver’s license, befriended other mothers, or learned Swiss German, the form of German spoken in Switzerland.
